Frequently Asked Questions about Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnosis? A state of relaxation and concentration, at one with a state of heightened awareness, induced by suggestion. It is a non-addictive power for good and is a natural manifestation of the mind at work.

Are there some people who can't be hypnotised? NO (except the mentally handicapped, although of course the degree varies from person to person).

Are there any drugs or tablets used? NO.

Shall I be aware of what is happening? YES. The predominant feeling of most people is "It didn't work for me, I never went under".

So I'm asleep then? NO. You are simply extremely relaxed. This is why the technique is called "Conscious Hypnosis".

Is there cause for concern? NONE whatsoever, Hypnosis is a proven therapeutic aid.

Can I bring someone with me to the free consultation? YES by all means you can, but not once therapy has commenced.

How many sessions will it take to finish therapy? An average number of sessions to bring about a successful conclusion to therapy is 8-12 .The complexity of the human mind makes an exact estimate impossible.

Who has therapy and why do they need it  ? All types of people decide that they need therapy each with a different
personality and each with all manner of personal reasons. The thing they
all have in common is that they have made a conscious decision to stop
doing something or start doing something which will improve their
quality of life for the better.

do I really need therapy  ?

If you are suffering from a behaviour pattern which seems to be inside
yourself yet outside your control.

If your emotions seem to have a will of their own.

  does it work  ? Yes

Is this problem just the way I am  ?
The problem you are suffering from has become the way you are it is most definitely not how you should be , if that was the case you would be happy with the way you are ,and certainly not asking this question.

Will it work for me   ?There is absolutely no reason why therapy would not work for you , if you are able to arrive at therapy sessions on a regular basis for a few weeks and invest some time, effort and money, your problem will be a thing of the past.

Am I just a hopeless case
?
No

If I admit to needing therapy does that mean I really am mad ?
Admittance is by far the saner option than pretending that you are ok when
it is quite clear you are not.

Will I like the therapist  ?Take advantage of the free initial consultation

If I tell him my problems will it go any further  ?
I am bound by my Association and indeed the Data protection act not to divulge any information to any third party .( see Privacy Policy)

 making an appointment

The next hurdle is making that first appointment, it is a commitment only to a free consultation where there will be no pressure, this is therapy not
sales. Questions and concerns which are often aired are:

Does a Doctor have to refer me
? I do receive referrals from G.P. s but it is not a necessity for treatment . I am a private practitioner and assess each client independently whether they are a referral or not.

Is this the correct therapy for my problem  ?
The assessment during your free consultation will determine if I consider you to be suitable for therapy .

  Will it be safe  ?
Yes . The therapy is totally safe and this is born out by the
insurance company providing cover for me while I am performing this therapy.  (Insurance companies take as fewer chances as possible!)

What is Hypnotherapy ,Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis  ?

Hypnotherapy is any form of therapy which uses hypnosis as a tool for
psychological intervention and treatment.

Psychotherapy is any form of therapy which is designed to bring to
consciousness psychological conflicts which are causing problems within the person.

Psychoanalysis is a form of therapy which , through the use of free association brings about a realization within a person about an issue usually unconscious to that person.
